Welcome & About this Blog

“Stories are the self’s medium of being”
– Arthur Miller, The Wounded Storyteller

Namaste! Welcome!

Welcome to Heartfelt Tidbit’s blog dedicated to sharing the stories of refugees and immigrants in Cincinnati. Cincinnati is home to 34,000 refugees who have resettled in the United States since 2008. That number keeps growing, as each week secondary migrants (relocating refugees) move here from other cities!

Heartfelt Tidbits is a 100% volunteer-based organization that provides support and services refugees need during and beyond the initial days of resettlement, in order to become truly settled in our city. Many of the recent refugees Heartfelt Tidbits work with come from the tiny country of Bhutan which is surrounded by the Himalayan Mountains north of India and South of Tibet. Cincinnati is home to refugees and immigrants from many different parts of the world. We invite our new neighbors and those serving them to contact us. We would love to share your story!

A Listening that Speaks

One way the Cincinnati community can welcome refugees and immigrants is by listening to their stories with openness and compassion. In this way, it is a type of listening that speaks. This blog will give local refugees a chance to share their stories of the long journey of leaving their home countries and finding their new home in Cincinnati. We invite you to become a witness to their story.

What to Expect

The many ways we will share refugee and immigrant stories include:

  • Stories  from local refugee and immigrant families
  • Stories from the volunteers serving local refugee and immigrant families
  • Guest writers
  • Recipes from the refugee community
  • Highlights and news from the refugee and immigrant community
  • A day in the life of … our programs, our director, etc.
  • Educational blogs (e.g. what’s the difference between an immigrant and refugee?)

We aim to make our stories meaningful, interesting, and touching. If you have any blog ideas or have a question for us, please contact us!

Thank you!

We thank you for welcoming refugees and immigrants through reading this blog. Please share the Heartfelt Tidbits Blog with family, friends, and neighbors and like our Facebook page so that more people can join us in welcoming our newest Cincinnati neighbors!
